The El Cajon Police Department’s Crime Laboratory provides forensic services for the City of El Cajon. Some of these services include crime scene processing and latent print development. The Crime Scene Unit typically responds to Crimes against People cases and fatal traffic collision cases.
The El Cajon Police Department’s Crime Laboratory is accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board- International (ASCLD/LAB-International). The Laboratory has met high standards in quality and continues to meet those standards.
Internships are non-paid work experience in the forensic field. It is a great way to get hands on experience in the areas of fingerprinting and crime scene processing. We are looking for highly motivated, positive, and trustworthy professionals. A minimum of 10 hours a week (during 8am – 5pm Monday thru Friday) is required. At times the interns may be on call 24 hours a day. Applicants need to pass a background investigation including a polygraph.
