El Cajon Police Citizen's Academy Begins March 14th
The El Cajon Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2018 Citizen’s Police Academy. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a ten-week program that allows members of the community to learn how the police El Cajon Police Department functions. Participants will attend weekly classes and learn about topics that include the history of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, crime scene investigation and presentations from the various divisions within the Police Department. Participants will also participate in hands-on exercises, such as conducting traffic stops, dusting for fingerprints, and a firearms simulation.
The academy will begin on Wednesday, March 14th, and conclude with a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 16th. Classes will be held every Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the El Cajon Police Station, in the Community Room, located at 100 Civic Center Way. Cajon. Everyone is encouraged to apply, however citizens and business people living and/or working within the City of El Cajon will be given priority.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and applications must be received by February 28th. A total of 25 students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, pending a background check and approval. Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted by March 2nd.

Applications must be dropped off or mailed to: El Cajon Police Department, Attn: Samantha Scheurn, 100 Civic Center Way, El Cajon, CA 92020. Emailed applications will not be accepted. Applications will be taken in the order received and all applications received after the first 25 will be placed on a waiting list.
