TYPE OF INCIDENT:   Home Owner Shoots and Kills Burglary Suspect

           

OCCURRED:    March 11, 2018 @ 0115 hrs

 

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE:  1100 Block of Mona Place, El Cajon California

 

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

 

On March 11, 2018 at approximately 0115 hrs. a citizen called the El Cajon Police Department to report what sounded like gunshots in the area of Mona Place and West Chase Ave. in the city of El Cajon. Responding officers learned that a resident that lives in the 1100 block of Mona Place woke up to the sound of his dogs barking. The resident looked outside and saw a male subject breaking into his vehicle that was parked in front of his house. The resident armed himself with a handgun for his safety and went outside to confront the suspect. Police believe that some type of confrontation did occur and the victim shot at the suspect multiple times, striking the suspect at least once. The suspect fled the scene in his own vehicle and crashed into the front yard of a house in the 1000 block of West Chase. Officers and paramedics responded to that location and the suspect was pronounced dead. El Cajon Police Homicide Detectives are investigating this incident. There are no outstanding suspects and no arrests have been made. The victim is cooperating with this investigation. The suspect is a 32 year-old male. His name is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office.
