TYPE OF INCIDENT:   Update on Shooting Death of Burglary Suspect

           

OCCURRED:    March 11, 2018 @ 0115 hrs

 

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE:  1100 Block of Mona Place, El Cajon California

 

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

 

El Cajon Police have released the name of the subject that was shot and killed by a homeowner during a vehicle burglary on March 11th 2018. The deceased subject is identified as Joseph MERCURIO 2/13/1987. The homeowner confronted MERCURIO during a vehicle burglary and a confrontation ensued. The homeowner fired several shots from a .357 revolver style handgun striking MERCURIO one time. MERCURIO died as a result of his injury. Homicide Investigators have since learned from their investigation, MERCURIO was driving a stolen vehicle and had been involved in at least two vehicle burglaries the night of this incident. The investigation is continuing.
