City Begins Planning Efforts to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The City of El Cajon has begun work to improve the City’s quality of life with the development of a Climate Action Plan - and you can help!
The City’s Climate Action Plan will be a comprehensive policy that outlines the City’s actions to align with statewide targets intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The main elements of the plan include inventorying emissions, establishing projections, identifying reduction targets and measures, and creating implementation and monitoring tools.
Harmful greenhouse gas emission affects our quality of life. These emissions originate from a variety of sources, including wastewater, water, solid waste, natural gas, electricity, and transportation. Identifying the City’s emissions through an inventory helps to inform the decision-making process that in turn helps to establish goals, reduce greenhouse gas emitting activities and improves the quality of life for the community at-large. Reducing emissions enhances air quality, lowers incidences of childhood asthma and other illnesses, energy use, and the need for imported water and energy. In addition, lowering greenhouse gases will help to create new green technology jobs.
The City, in collaboration with Ascent Environmental, Inc., Energy Policy Initiative Center, NewcomerSD and the San Diego Association of Governments is working together to develop the City’s Climate Action Plan, and your valuable input is needed!
