RESUME OF INCIDENT:

On 10-04-2018 at approximately 7:30 AM, El Cajon Police Officers and Paramedics responded to the intersection of West Main Street and Sunshine Avenue reference a call of a juvenile on a bicycle that had been struck by a vehicle, with the vehicle fleeing from the scene. Upon arrival, police and paramedics discovered a 9 year old male subject laying in the southbound lanes of the intersection. The child was unconscious and transported to a local hospital with serious head injuries. The identification of the juvenile is being withheld at this time.

After a preliminary investigation of the scene and the taking of witness statements, it appears the traffic signal for north and southbound traffic had turned green and the bicyclist was traveling northbound in the intersection when he was struck by a dark blue vehicle, possibly a 4 door Honda Fit which was traveling eastbound on West Main Street. The driver of the vehicle was possibly a female with light colored or blonde hair. The juvenile pedestrian remains at the hospital with serious injuries. Based on witness statements, the suspect vehicle could possibly have damage to the front grill and right fender area.

The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this hit and run crime to call (619) 579-3311.

We would also like to remind drivers that it is important to obey all traffic control devices and that school is in session, so be aware of children walking or riding their bicycles.
