TYPE OF INCIDENT:  Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Suicide

DATE AND TIME OCCURRED:  02/06/18 @ 5:57pm

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE:  100 Block of West Park, El Cajon

On 2/6/18, at about 6:00 pm, the El Cajon Police Department received a call of a shooting at a residence in the 100 block of West Park.  Officers responded to the scene and found a male victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg who was performing first aid on a female, who had shot herself in the chest with a large caliber hand gun. The male was transported to an area hospital and the female was deceased at the scene.

After careful investigation, ECPD Detectives have determined that this is a domestic violence shooting where the female committed suicide after shooting her fiancé in the leg. There are no outstanding suspects.

Because this is a domestic violence incident, the name of the victim will not be released. The name of the deceased may be released by the San Diego County Medical Examiner after proper notification of family.
