**UPDATE** Shooting in El Cajon

Post Date:03/29/2019 2:45 PM

The El Cajon Police Department is still investigating the shooting death of a probable carjacking and vehicle burglary suspect in the 1300 block of East Main on March 28, 2019. Video evidence from a nearby business, a photo from a cell phone and witness interviews indicate the suspect may have been trying to burglarize and then carjack a vehicle belonging to the man that shot the suspect. Witnesses told investigators the suspect also tried to violently attack an off duty security guard who initially reported the vehicle burglary. The security guard told police that he pepper sprayed the suspect, but it had no effect. The security guard then locked himself in his vehicle to prevent the suspect from physically attacking him. The suspect then tried to break two of the windows to the security guards vehicle before the security guard was able to drive away. The suspect then redirected his attention and advanced towards the first victim who then shot the suspect. The victim is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests have been made and it is not believed that the victim and suspect knew each other. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-311.
