SERIOUS INJURY PEDESTRIAN COLLISION IN EL CAJON

TYPE OF INCIDENT: PEDESTRIAN COLLISION

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: 06-16-19 at 1:00 am

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: 200 Block of Broadway Avenue, El Cajon

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

On 06-16-2019 at approximately 1:05 am, El Cajon Police Officers and paramedics responded to the 200 block of Broadway Avenue reference a call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, police and paramedics discovered a female who looked to be in her mid 40’s laying in the westbound lanes of Broadway Avenue. The subject was unconscious, and had suffered what looked to be major head and body trauma as a result of being struck by a vehicle. The unidentified female was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

After a preliminary investigation of the scene, it appears the pedestrian was midblock in the westbound lanes of traffic, walking outside of any marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle. The possible suspect vehicle is described as being white in color and last seen heading westbound on Broadway from the scene. At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a part in this collision.

The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this collision to call (619) 579-3311.

We would also like to remind those who walk at night to obey all traffic control devices, only cross the street at designated, controlled intersections, and wear bright or light colored clothing for visibility. For those driving vehicles during hours of darkness, please pay extra attention to the roadway and be aware of pedestrians that may be crossing.
