Post Date: 09/05/2019 9:45 AM

TYPE OF INCIDENT: FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: 09/05/2019 @ 05:37 AM

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: 1000 N Johnson Ave, El Cajon

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

On 09/05/19 at approximately 5:37 AM, El Cajon Police Officers and paramedics responded to the area of 1000 N Johnson Ave reference a call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. After the initial response, it was determined the pedestrian had died at the scene and was not transported by medical personnel. The deceased was identified as a 45 year old female. We are not releasing her name as notification to her family has not been made.

After a preliminary investigation of the scene and the taking of witness statements, it appears a maroon 2019 Ford truck was traveling northbound in the 1000 Block of N Johnson. The pedestrian was crossing the street in an easterly direction outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by the truck

The driver of the Ford remained on scene and has been fully cooperative with investigators. At this point in the investigation, DUI is not suspected to be a factor in the collision.

It is estimated that N Johnson Ave will be closed between Fesler and Vernon until approximately 11:00 AM. Drivers should find an alternate route to avoid the closure.

The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this collision to call (619) 579-3311. We would also like to remind those who walk at night to obey all traffic control devices, only cross the street at designated, controlled intersections, and wear bright or light colored clothing for visibility. For those driving vehicles during hours of darkness, please pay extra attention to the roadway and be aware of pedestrians that may be crossing.
