TYPE OF INCIDENT:  Street Robberies in El Cajon

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE:  El Cajon, CA

RESUME OF INCIDENT

The El Cajon Police Department is experiencing an increase in street robberies over the past several weeks. In several of these cases, the victims are described as elderly males that are physically assaulted from behind by a lone suspect. None of the victims reported seeing a weapon. The victims were robbed while walking on public sidewalks and had property taken from their person. The suspect descriptions in these cases vary and are described as either African American, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern males within the ages of 20 and 40 years. The suspects are also described as being between 5’6” to 6 feet tall and from 160 to 180   pounds. These incidents have occurred in the area of the 1000 block of East Main Street and the 800 block of Buena Terrace. At this time it is unknown if these crimes are related.

The El Cajon Police Department is asking for the community’s help in solving these crimes. Anyone with information regarding these incidents or suspects involved are encouraged to call the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or on-line at SDCRIMESTOPPERS.ORG.

In addition, the El Cajon Police Department would like to remind the community of several crime prevention tips, especially during the holiday season. When walking, travel in groups in well-lighted areas that are highly visible to others. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash on your person, and have a cellular phone with you to report emergencies or crimes-in-progress by calling 9-1-1. Always be aware of your surroundings and report anything suspicious to the police.

We encourage the community to refer to our website for additional crime prevention information, as well as the El Cajon Police Department Twitter and Instagram pages.
