EL CAJON POLICE DEPT. – PRESS RELEASE INFORMATION SHEET

TYPE OF INCIDENT:   Arrest for Attempt Robbery

OCCURRED:    12/06/19 at approx. 2130 hrs.

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 500 N. Mollison El Cajon California

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

El Cajon Police Detectives have arrested a 19 year-old male for an attempted robbery that left a victim with a broken arm. The attempted robbery happened in the 500 block of North Mollison on Friday, December 6, 2019. The victim in this case was walking on the sidewalk in the area when he was approached from behind by the suspect. The suspect punched the victim, a 44 year-old male numerous times, knocking him to the ground. The suspect then demanded money from the victim. The victim told the suspect he did not have any money and the suspect fled the area on foot. Based upon information provided by the victim, detectives were able to identify the suspect from a prior arrest and conviction that he had for a similar robbery back in 2018. A short time after the incident, the suspect was located by San Diego Police Officers and detained at a trolley station in the City of San Diego. El Cajon Police Detectives took custody of the suspect and booked him into San Diego County Jail on one count of attempt robbery. El Cajon police are exploring the possibility that the suspect may also be responsible for similar robberies that also involved physical assaults.

The suspect has been identified as 19 year-old Ammar Hassan of San Diego.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the El Cajon Police Department Investigations Division at 619-579-3320.
