DATE AND TIME OCCURRED

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE

100 S. Mollison Ave., El Cajon

RESUME OF INCIDENT

On the above date and time the victim, a male in his early 20's, was standing in a parking lot in the 100 block of S. Mollison when he was approached by three male suspects in their early 20's. At some point during their contact, one of the suspects shot the victim at least one time before fleeing the scene with the other two suspects in a white Volkswagen. A short distance away, the suspect vehicle was spotted by responding officers and a pursuit ensued. At the time of the pursuit, the suspect vehicle was occupied by only the driver. The pursuit ended when the suspect collided with an uninvolved vehicle occupied by two adults and two children at Pepper Dr. and Mollison Ave. After the collision, the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Responding officers chased the suspect on foot for a short distance before the suspect attempted to get into an unoccupied police vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody before he was able to take control of the police vehicle.

The occupants of the uninvolved vehicle were not injured during the collision. The suspect sustained minor injuries during the collision and arrest. The victim of the shooting was transported to a local trauma center and is being treated for at least one gunshot wound as of the writing of this press release. The two other suspects have not been located at this time and their identity is unknown.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the safety of the public at this time. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this crime to contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or on-line at SDCRIMESTOPPERS.ORG.
