City Releases Funding for Food Assistance

The City of El Cajon distributed over $100,000 in funding to support grocery and food assistance programs for residents in the community. These funds were sourced through the recently passed CARES Act and were designated by the City Council at its April 14th Meeting. This program is just one of many that were approved to help the community and reflects the City’s efforts amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s imperative that individuals, families, seniors, and all residents throughout the City are able to put food on the table during this challenging time—it’s a basic necessity,” stated City Manager Graham Mitchell.

City staff contacted food assistance and grocery delivery organizations to offer financial assistance in support of their efforts. Checks went out on Friday to nine organizations that serve the El Cajon community, and food is expected to begin arriving at homes in the next week using funds provided through this program.
