TYPE OF INCIDENT: FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: 05/19/2020 @ 8:40 PM

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: Broadway and First St

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

On 05/19/20 at approximately 8:40 PM, El Cajon Police Officers and paramedics responded to the area of Broadway and First St reference a call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital by Heartland Fire Department Medics. The pedestrian, an elderly male, died at the hospital.

After a preliminary investigation of the scene and the taking of witness statements, it appears a white Toyota Camry was traveling east bound on Broadway at First St. The elderly male, who was in a wheelchair was crossing Broadway against a red light when he was struck.

The driver of the Toyota remained on scene and has been fully cooperative with investigators. At this point in the investigation, alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the collision.

The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this collision to call (619) 579-3311. We would also like to remind those who walk at night to obey all traffic control devices, only cross the street at designated, controlled intersections, and wear bright or light colored clothing for visibility.
