through the Acceptance Facility at the
City of El Cajon Office of the City Clerk

Due to public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, effective March 17, 2020, we are not open for passport appointments.

We will update this notice as the status changes.

To make an appointment at a passport agency or center for a life-or-death emergency, you must call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 (1-888-874-7793 TDD/TTY) on Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Eastern Time, except federal holidays or on Saturdays, 10:00am to 3:00pm Eastern Time. Call 202-647-4000 outside of these hours to make an appointment.

Passport processing is by appointment only:

Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and
Alternate Fridays:        8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Fill Out an Application

The application must be Printed/Black Ink ONLY, but do not sign the application until you are instructed to do so by the acceptance agent at the City office.

  • You must provide a Social Security Number (SSN) in accordance with 22 U.S.C. 2714a.

Provide Evidence of U.S. Citizenship

You must submit one of the following. Photocopies and notarized copies are not acceptable.

  • U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements:
    • Issued by the city, county, or state of birth
    • Lists your full name, date of birth, and place of birth
    • Lists your parent(s)' full names
    • Has the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth)
    • Has the registrar's signature
    • Has the seal of the issuing authority
    • Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired)
    • Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth 
    • Certificate of Naturalization
    • Certificate of Citizenship

Present Identification

You must present one of the following identification documents (IDs) to the acceptance agent. The ID must readily identify you.

  • In-state, fully-valid driver's license
  • Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired)
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
  • Government employee ID (city, county, state or federal)
  • U.S. military ID or military dependent ID
  • Valid foreign passport
  • Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular Identification, commonly used by the parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant)

Passport processing is by appointment ONLY. Call (619) 441-1763.

You must submit:

  1. Unsigned, completed passport application
  2. Citizenship evidence
  3. Identification
  4. Passport photo - You must bring your photo(s) with you when you arrive to your appointment.
  5. We do not offer passport photo services at this time.  Passport photo services are offered at the following stores:  Costco, CVS, FedEx, Rite Aid, UPS, Walgreens and Walmart.
  6. Check or money order (ONLY) for application fee payable to:  U.S. Department of State.
  7. Check, money order, cash, or credit card for the $35 processing fee payable to: City of El Cajon.

 REMEMBER:  you will need to make two separate payments per application.


PARKING Two-hour parking is available adjacent to City Hall in front of the Police Department at 100 Civic Center Way.
