The shelter is open to the public from 10 am to 5:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. For after hours concerns requiring immediate assistance, please call (619) 579-3311 and select 1 to speak to a Police Dispatcher.
The El Cajon Animal Shelter houses stray or relinquished pets found within the city limits of El Cajon and La Mesa. Animals not claimed by their owners are placed up for adoption to the general public.

The City of El Cajon uses Dead Animal Removal (DAR) to remove deceased animals from the roadway. DAR can reached directly at 619-390-8204 or you can call the ECPD Communications Center at 619-579-3311.
