The City of El Cajon has met the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) accomplishment in continuing to exceed the State’s mandated 50% diversion rate.

The State has set a goal of 75% for 2020.  This means that more than 75% of everything we are disposing of is being diverted away from our landfills and being reused or recycled.  Currently, the City’s diversion rate is approximately 61%.

The City of El Cajon currently has an exclusive franchise agreement with Waste Management for solid waste disposal and recycling services. The agreement expires on December 31, 2020 and the City has issued a Request for Proposals for waste and recycling services.
